Superheroes: Captain America

Okay, it's not that great but it's still a must have for fans of superhero films. You probably all know the drill when it comes to Cap's origin and the film stays albeit low bugetely faithful to it: During World War II, a brave, patriotic but physically weak American Soldier undergoes radical experiments to become a new super soldier, and whaddaya know ~It worked! But not before the good and noble doctor is killed by those Nazi scum~ "Captain America." is born! Racing to Germany to sabotage the rockets of Nazi baddie "Red Skull", again like tho comics Captain America winds up frozen until the 1990s. He reawakens to find that the Red Skull has changed identities and is now planning to kidnap the President of the United States.
From the director of Nemesis, Dollman, Cyborg.... Another Flikka oddity and perfect for fans of “lost” superhero or made-for-TV fans. Never before available on dvd and looong out of print on vhs. This is a pan n'scan copy from an original vhs source so like all vhs copies the picture quality is slightly “soft”, I'd say an 8 out of 10 while the sound is a 9 out of 10.

Superheroes: Reb Brown Set - Captain America 2 disc



Description:

(1979) TV movie. Both Made for TV Captain America movies on two discs for one low price! Taking some liberties with Cap's origin - almost murdered when attacked by spies looking for his late father's secrets, the man who will be the good captain is saved in surgery when the FLAG formula is injected into him. Not only healing him, this serum also gave him tremendous strength and lightening reflexes. To help him retaliate, a government agency equipments him with a special motorcycle loaded with gadgets and a shield that is not only bulletproof, but can return to the user after being thrown. Ready, armed, he battles against the nation's enemies as the Sentinel of Liberty, Captain America. Good, not great sound/picture from an original broadcast source. Sound/Picture 7.5/10

And - Captain America II Death Too Soon

(1979) TV movie. Cap returns and must do battle with Peter Cushing who has a plan to poison America with something that will accelerate everyone's age at a crazy fast rate. Ohh scary - actually its pretty good. Good, not great sound/picture from an original broadcast source. Sound/Picture 7.5/10

Superheroes: Captain Scarlet



Description:

You bet yer boots `Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons' is back! Now it's called 'Gerry Anderson's New Captain Scarlet' and uses motion-capture CGI instead of Puppets each episode is jam flikkin' packed with break-neck action, amazing visuals, mind-blowing action and surprisingly good storylines in each 22-minute episode.
Anderson had a budget of $30 million across 26 episodes - produced in High Definition with Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound! The set up? A mysterious extraterrestrial signal is detected coming from Mars, the world security organization Spectrum sends agents Captain Scarlet and Captain Black to investigate. The two discover the source of the signals: a huge alien city, which appears before their them. When the aliens send a probe to anylise their vehicle Black assumes it's hostile and fires off missiles which completely destroys the entire city. The alien buildings reform and the city's inhabitants, the Mysterons quickly retaliate by killing Black and declaring war on Earth. Cool, cool, cool.. sound/picture=10/10!

The Philippino Wonder Woman! Darna runs around in a skimpy outfit, flying through the air, shooting laser beams out of her eyes and battles ridiculous villains. And it's from the Philippines! What more do ya want? Based on the comic book series. Perfect Picture and Sound from an dvd source with menu and chapter stops. In Phillipino with English Subtitles. Sound/Picture 10/10

Description:

Based (of course) on the popular Anime series - A lethal (but sensitive - he sheds tears of regret whenever he kills) assassin is accidentally seen executing three Yakuza gangsters by a beautiful young artist. Captivated by the grace of this killing machine she ends up falling in love with him while an intense power struggle for the leadership of the Yakuza Clans ensues. A very cool. stylish flick. Great sound/picture from an international digital source. Sound/Picture 10/10.

1978 TV Directed by Gordon Hessler Another CLASSIC made-for-TV film. Sure the acting's sub par, the budget laughable, the effects terrible~even the stunts are prime examples of seventies TV drek...BUT IT'S KISS IN THEIR ONLY REAL MOVIE! The mysterious KISS are playing multiple nights at an amusement park at the same time that the park's main robotics genius Abner Devereaux goes MAAAD! See, he's found a way to clone humans into robots and he plans to use clone KISS, steal their mystical powers and use the KISS concert to unleash his diabolical plan on the world don't ask me what that plan actually was 'cause to this day I can't figure it out. Can KISS regain their powers and stop him? Who cares! IT'S KISS! A Flikka fave! Like so many films, it's never before been available on dvd and you guessed it looong out of print on vhs. A pan n'scan copy from an original vhs source, picture quality is good, if a tiny bit “soft” like so many on vhs, I'd say an 8.5 out of 10 while the sound is a 9 out of 10. If ya don't own this one we can't be friends.

Will Eisner's great character Denny Colt is portrayed by Sam Jones in this TV movie adaptation of the comics.Officer Colt is believed to be have been killed by gangsters. Revived in a shack near the Wildwood Cemetery, Colt dons a domino mask and vows to fight crime as "The Spirit." His first job is to thwart the villainous vamp P'gell (McKinlay Robinson), who schemes to detonate a bomb during an important civic event.
Intended as the pilot for a series the cast was all quite good but somehow it never came together.

Description:

Undaunted and driven to move foreward and complete his work, Dr. Azuma accepts a secret offer from a sinister faction of the military. After an incident occurs in Dr. Azuma's lab, a race of mutant humans known as the Shinzo Ningen are unleashed upon the world. Now only the warrior known as Casshern, reincarnated with an invincible body, stands between the Shinzo Ningen and a world on the brink of annihilation. A very cool movie and available in a special edition 3 disc version with TONS of extras (the movie is subtitled but the extras are not..sorry). Sound/Picture=10/10.

Superheroes: Aquaman Pilot



Description:

With so much drek on TV it's mystifying why a show with a whole lot of promise like this one (and Global Frequency) didn't get picked up. This Aquaman is set up as a kind of modern fairytale: an exiled prince from the legendary Atlantis, with no memory of what his true birthright is faces evils sent from a mysterious cult of his own underwater people. Oh yeah, the FX are pretty cool too - killer mermaid)
