Weirdo Cult: 4
Description:
(2005/II) Directed by Ilya Khrjanovsky. Writing credits Vladimir Sorokin. Increasingly unpleasant and difficult to categorize or interpret, this film is about two men and a woman who meet in a bar and talk about everything in their lives. From the interesting to the banal. What we don't know is anyone ever telling the truth? What's really interesting is that this movie is like a window into the different opinions and different aspects of contemporary Russian society. Beautiful sound and picture from an international dvd source. Sound/picture a 10/10. In Russian with English Subtitles. Dvd menu.

We all know the world is goin' to hell. right? Ecological collapse, wars, disease, and the next ice-age is upon us. Fortunately for the human race governments know what to do. Unfortunately it's a conspiracy to end all conspiracies. Scientists have been vanishing, secret space missions have been launched, and a freak accident which kills the courier of a tape containing a secret radio message from an unmanned Mars probe - holds the key. Ruthless investigative reporters uncover the ominous master plan. A classic T.V. conspiracy documentary and super rare hence the picture and sound I'd rate a very watchable 7/10.

Weirdo Cult: Barbed Wire Dolls
Description:
Tons of nudity and sleaze, "Barbed Wire Dolls" has to be one of the sleaziest Women in Prison epics ever created. Beautiful Maria (the gorgeous Lina Romay )is imprisoned in a penitentiary run by a cruel (of course) lesbian (oh yeah) warden. Why? Well, seems she's accused of murdering her father (played by Jesus Franco himself). Guess what? The wardress actually did the deed (oh the humanity) and once in prison, she got her mitts on poor Maria, subjecting her to various tortures. This flick is about as sleazy as it gets: whippings, masturbation with a cigarette, lesbian sex scenes, rape and a close up of one of the inmate's private parts being penetrated by a guard's fingers. Guess what? The acting's actually not bad and the film is never boring. A dirty classic a look. Great print! Sound/picture 9/10. Adults Only

Weirdo Cult: Beaver Trilogy
Description:
A flikkin' hard film to get a hold of. A legendary underground film, who's creation is just as crazy as the film. Wanna know how it came about? Follow us back to the crazy year 1979... A chance meeting between filmmaker Trent Harris and a small-town dreamer from Beaver, Utah in a Salt Lake City parking lot results in Harris agreeing to go down to and film guy's performance at Beaver's talent show. In black leather and blond wig, the guy performs in drag as Olivia Newton John. Harris captures it all on tape. What should have been just a freak show becomes a strange, funny, and poignant document of a true outsider. So enthralled, Harris then made a dramatised version: "Beaver Kid 2" which was shot in 1981 on a home video camera with a budget of about $100, featuring a real young Sean Penn as the Beaver Kid re-enacting the same scenario. Harris then rewrote the script, cast Crispin Glover in the lead, and in 1985 created the final segment, "Orkly Kid" as an American Film Institute project. The three films were re-edited, compbined, and screened at the Lincoln Center in New York City in July of 2000. A great film on a true outsider. Picture/sound on this rarity is about a 7/10

Weirdo Cult: Beyond Erotica
Description:
Don't cha just love vaguely arty films explore the perverse dialectic between power and sexuality that are a veiled excuse to show beautiful (and frequently naked) European actresses being abused and sexually degraded. David Hemmings is the spoiled and sexually-warped heir of a decrepit and nearly-bankrupt Venezuelan hacienda. His loving mother goes out and hires girls from the village nearby to indulge her son in his creepo "games". Andrea Rau (Delphine Seyrig's vampiric lesbian sidekick in "Daughters of Darkness")is his latest plaything. He locks her in a pen and starves her, forces her to strip and sprays her with a hose, feeds her a maggot-filled loaf of bread, making her dress up like a bunny and run through the woods while he "hunts" her on horseback... You get the idea. They just dont make them like this very often. From an original out of print vhs source. Good picture & sound. 7/10.

Weirdo Cult: Black Devil Doll From Hell
Description:
(1984) Directed by Chester Novell Turner. An impossible to find, low budget, mind-blowingly naive, evil, offensive, etc...film. Almost a black early John Waters creation in it's disregard for taboos. The plot is less pretty simple: a nice woman shopping at an open air market, buys cute rasta doll/puppet thing, takes it home with her. The puppet comes alive and raises swearing-fueled hell: it smokes pot, is totally abusive and in one of the weirdest celluloid (okay actually it was shot on video) moments we here have sat through - gives her oral sex.) And it's all played totally seriously. So far past bad it's good, so jaw-droppingly terrible it's amazing. Laugh your ass off way through scenes never meant to be funny while grooving to the 2 finger synth sound track. Unbelievable! Good Picture and Sound from a loong out of print pre-record source, although the footage is a little raw due to being shot originally on video. Sound/Picture 7/10 ADULTS ONLY!

Weirdo Cult: Chatterbox
Description:
(1977) Tagline: It speaks for itself! Plot Outline: A young woman who works in a beauty parlor discovers that her vagina can talk, which causes her no end of trouble. Compared to the lunkheaded, overly graphic sex comedies of today, this film comes off actually as innocent, sexy fun. 70's starlet Candace Rialson is gorgeous and often naked and really makes this goofy premise believable. Too bad she left acting after the 70's. For all the goofy sexual situations, including one where Rialson makes love to a guy in a suit of armor, this is nicely paced and has some genuine laughs. Throw in disco dancing, musical numbers and guest appearances by old school crazies Rip Taylor and Professor Irwin Corey and you have a movie that deserves a better reputation than a "World's Worst Film".

Weirdo Cult: Dr. Caligari
Description:
1989 Directed by Stephen Sayadian Don't confuse this one with the silent film by Robert Weine. Strange, strange, strange... I saw this originally at a film festival and over the years the thing has mellowed out but what would you expect from a “mainstream” effort from the director of such films as Cafe Flesh and Nightdreams II ? The plot just won't convey the oddness dripping from this film but here goes: When a woman shows signs of losing touch with reality her husband decides to discusses possible treatments for her with a strange psychiatrist named.. wait for it.. Dr. Caligari. Caligari's diagnosis is that the woman's problems are due to a disease she has of the libido and needs treatment immediately. Meanwhile the staff at the good doctor's facilty want Dr. Caligari removed due to her controversial experiments with electroshock and hypothalamus injections. Dr. Caligari won't have any of it and continues her experimenting while the woman's daughter and son-in-law decide that they must stop her. Sounds straightforeward? It ain't! A fave of the Flikka family, a weird, strangely sexy oddity. Like so many films, it's never before been available on dvd and you guessed it looong out of print on vhs. This is a beaut of a print.A pan n'scan copy from an original vhs source but unlike so many vhs copies the picture quality is really good , I'd say an 9 out of 10 while the sound is a 9 out of 10. Ya gotta own this one folks. Adults Only

He begins a strange relationship with the (obviously) disturbed beauty who gets more and more 'peculier' as the movie goes on: she strips for bellboys, exposes herself to passing tourists, hallucinates insects in her bathroom, and goes into a coma after being raped in a mental institution. Weirdo Cult: Goddo supiido yuu Burakku emparaa
Description:
Also Known As: Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Directed by Mitsuo Yanagimachi 1976. This one is an offbeat look at a Japanese motorcycle gang called the "Black Emperors," as they battle with other gangs, defile public property and the engage in in-fighting between group members. The view of the gang is mostly superficial - it fails to elaborate on what the group 'stands for' and never addresses (or chooses to ignore) their seemingly neo-fascist agenda (for example, the Black Emperors use the swastika as a symbol). Yanagimachi does not interfere with the group in any way, passively observing their sometimes hard-to-follow and rambling discussions and arguments. As a portrait of youthful alienation and outsiders bonding, however, it is - in its own way - timeless.

Weirdo Cult: Immoral Tales
Description:
a.k.a.Contes immoraux (1974) Directed by Walerian Borowczyk. That's right, from the director that brought you 'Dr. Jekyll and His Women', 'Behind Convent Walls', and the infamous 'The Beast' comes four erotic tales from various historical eras. 'The Tide', is set now, in the present day, and is about a student and his young female cousin stranded on the beach by the tide.. secluded from prying eyes ! 'Therese Philosophe' is set in the nineteenth century. A girl is locked in her bedroom, left alone to contemplate the erotic potential of the objects contained within it. 'Erzsebet Bathory' is the most famous of the four and it's a portrait of the sixteenth-century countess (supposedly one of the Bram Stoker's influences when developing the ideas behind 'Dracula') who allegedly bathed in the blood of virgins. And lastly, 'Lucrezia Borgia' is about, simply, an incestuous fifteenth-century orgy involving Lucrezia, her brother, and her father - the Pope. Hot! Beautiful sound and picture from an international dvd source. Sound/picture a 10/10. In French with English Subtitles. Dvd menu. Adults Only!

Weirdo Cult: Kurotokage a.k.a. Black Lizard
Description:
Directed by Kinji Fukasaku 1968. This one's a weird one. It's basically a hipster, spy Japanese sixties comedy in which a female jewel thief named Black Lizard played by transvestite actor Akihiro Maruyama !?! tries to kidnap a wealthy jeweler's beautiful daughter all as part of a diabolical plot to steal the jeweler's prize "Star of Egypt" diamond. To stop the kidnapping, the jeweler hires Japan's number one detective, the brilliant Akechi Isao Kimura, setting off a dual between Black Lizard and Akechi. In the process, the two adversaries, in tried and true asian film fashion, develop a mutual respect and affection for each other. You have GOT to see Black Lizard's remote island secret lair which is populated by a collection of naked human dolls. See, SPOILER ALERT...Black Lizard plans to preserve the jeweler's daughter's beauty forever by turning her into one of her dolls. Directed by the director of such classics as Battle Royale II and the Green Slime. A real oddity and perfect for fans of “lost” weird films, sixties hipster films, or Japanese craziness.. Never before available on dvd and looong out of print on vhs. This is a great letterboxed copy from an original vhs source so like all vhs copies the picture quality is slightly “soft”, I'd say an 8 out of 10 while the sound is a 9 out of 10. Weirdo Cult: Mysteries of the Gods
Description:
"The Mysteries of the Gods" is a full length documentary portraying the ancient astronaut theories of Swiss-born researcher Erich von Däniken. The film is hosted and narrated by no less than William Shatner himself. Everything from the Peruvian Crystal Skull to the megalith structures in the jungles of Southeast Asia is accepted as evidence for the AAS theory. Cave drawings, old legends, Biblical stories and even some psychic visions of late Jeane Dixon are understood as stone cold facts. Eric von Däniken's reputation was still quite unspoiled at the time so all the arguments (even the most far-fetched) are shown with a great confidence. William Shatner is–as usual–overacting his part. With all the strange "scientific" people, long shots, enthusiastic Shatner and eerie 70's synthesizer music this amazing documentary was from the day one destined to become a cult classic.
