Made for TV: The Crow, Stairway To Heaven

Description:

(1998) This is the complete unreleased tv series. The plot is pretty much the same as the premise of the other Crow films: Exactly one year after his death, rock musician Eric Draven returns to earth in a symbolic and literal leap from the bridge that joins the Land of the Dead and the land of the living. Possessing the mystic powers of The Crow, he is neither living nor dead, searching for a way to right what has been wronged. This was a pretty cool, stylish series.

Draven was given some friends and associates to help in his quest and things were looking good for a second series but, alas, that never happened. Too bad. Very good Picture and Sound from an original broadcast source with menu and chapter stops. Sound/Picture 8.5/10 Complete series on 5 Dvd-rs.

Made for TV: Dr. Strange

Description:
One of the most faithful of the seventies made for TV marvel adaptions - and not even aired in all parts of the country - this pretty decent film was supposed to be the precursor of a new t.v. series but alas it was never picked up. Peter Hooten stars as psychiatrist Stephen Strange, the unaware heir to vast mystical powers which aging sorcerer Lindmer seeks to bestow on him (see, it's his destiny). When the evil Morgan LeFay is sent by an evil demon from another dimension to snuff out the aging sorcerer and begin the takeover of Earth, Linder fends her off as his pupil, Wong, seeks out Strange for his initiation into the mystic arts. Hooten delivers an appealing performance as the good doctor. It's his acting that really sells this adaption-The soundtrack is reminiscent of Goblin's music in Dario Argento films. This is from an original, and needless to say, long out of print vhs copy, so it's a bit soft..I'd say sound/picture 7/10.

Made for TV: Generation X

Description:
Directed by Jack Sholder. 1996
Heroes are no longer born... ...they are created.
Based on the Marvel Comics comic book, "Generation X" is the story of a bunch of teenagers who are blessed or cursed with superhuman powers. The kids are "mutants", and live in a world that hates and fears them for their abilities. They attend "Xavier's School for Gifted Students"- a selective and very small private school just for mutants. The kids are taught by two adult mutants: the filthy rich and morally questionable telepath, Emma Frost/"The White Queen", and Sean Cassidy/"Banshee", an Irishman who has a "sonic scream" capable of splitting steel. The villain of this story is Russell Trask an egomaniacal scientist out to use mutants to advance his schemes. When he finds out that The White Queen, an old adversary of his, is now teaching school to a bunch of mutant teenagers, he decides to kill two birds with one stone and kidnap her students to use in his experiments.
